The Preciousness of Life

Dear friends and readers,

I don’t mean to write something depressing, and I hope you don’t find it so.  I was actually in the midst of composing something else and suddenly two events happened today that made me stop and ponder how precious life is.

First, a serious and tragic accident occurred this morning just around the corner of my neighbourhood, literally a 3 minute walk from my home.  It was a crash between a public bus and a truck, leaving one female passenger dead and at least 10 people injured.  I hope the injured will have a speedy recovery. I feel for the poor female passenger whose life was taken away in a flash.  My deepest condolences to her family.

Second, I received news that my dad does not have a lot of days remaining to live.  He has been fighting courageously against cancer for the past 7 years, and we thought his latest battle will be victory one more time.  After all, third time’s the charm.  Unfortunately, that is not the case, and we must face reality.

These two news really made me realize that life is not only precious, but also short.  None of us know when it will be our time to go, like the lady on the bus today, or my dad who never thought he would get cancer and that he is now at the last stage of it.  I think that while we are living on earth, we truly need to enjoy life to the fullest every day because it could very well be our last; do what makes us happy, and spend time with those who matter to us especially our loved ones.  You never know how long you will have with someone.

I promise myself to be happy and live my daily life to the fullest, do what I love, and spend time with those who really matter to me especially my dad.

I will end this post with this meaningful quote on life that I found:

Life is short image

I hope you find this quote relevant to you as well, and help you to think about this in your own life: Who and what are really important to you?

Carpe diem & cheers to life! 🙂

Love, Violet

A Short Reflection on Transition & Transformation

When I am not running around like a chicken with its head cut off at work, I really enjoy having conversations with my friend HezekiYah.  Our conversations usually delve into deep topics about life, human nature etc.  His observations always propel me to take a closer look around me and inside myself.  As our school year comes to an end, our discussion centered around transition.  We both observed that everyone around us, including ourselves, were in “transition”.  To me, transition is the process of changing from one state or condition to another, and change comes in a variety of shapes and sizes, and possibly in all areas of our lives.  As we grow older, our attitudes, thoughts, motivations, and behaviours change, which in turn help us to grow stronger and wiser.  I believe that change is good, sweet and life-affirming!

In reflection, the person I am today is different from the person I was a year ago.  For example, who knew that I would begin blogging or enjoy spending time in the kitchen, whereas a year ago I was strongly against learning technology (I see blogging and technology as the same thing!) and preferred to go out for meals.  I guess the beauty of life is that as we encounter new situations and/or people, we grow and change as a result of these experiences, into the person we want to be in our minds and hearts.  As HezekiYah said, if we are the same as a year ago, something is wrong.  Stagnancy begets boredom and inflexibility.  I think it is very exciting to be in transition, embracing change within ourselves and around us, and moving forward at our own pace, until one day, we transform into the person we desire to be and live the life we envision for ourselves!

I will end my short reflection with this quote that I love and reminds me of transition and transformation. I hope you enjoy it and will reflect upon your own transition and transformation, and continue to build the life you dream for yourself and those you love, without fear! 🙂

Feeling Inner Peace…

Taiwan Peace pic

This is one of my favourite quotes of all time.  It was introduced to me by my eternally cheerful, empathetic and optimistic yoga instructor Josie, who is known by all students to begin each class with a thoughtful and inspiring quote.  The quote really resonated with me during that particular yoga class, and when my daily life gets crazy hectic, I return to it.  It empowers and reminds me to stay calm, centered and joyful no matter what happens in my life.  I chose a photo that I took from my travel to Taiwan’s Alishan (Mount Ali) to match this quote.  A few years ago, I went to see the sunrise on Alishan and I have to say, it was one of the most breathtaking moments in my life, to be surrounded by such a gorgeous scenic view, tranquility and pure fresh air.  At that moment I felt so at peace with everything and myself.  Whenever I think of this quote, my mind immediately connects me back to this beautiful moment on Alishan.

I  hope you find inspiration and inner peace from this quote and scenic photo in your own daily life. Keep smiling!! 🙂

What do you do to find or keep inner peace?  Please share. 🙂

Thanks and Love, Violet
